Attention Hipsters, Your Favorite Beer Just Turned Russian

Published On September 19, 2014 | By Jeff Glucker | Beer Questions

PBR. Pabst Blue Ribbon. An iconic piece of America’s brewing history, is set to become part of the Russian firm known as Oasis Beverages. That’s a major shift in ownership for the company that was the first to put a beer in a can, way back in 1935.

It’s not just PBR though, as the Pabst Brewing portfolio also includes the likes of Schlitz, Old Milwaukee, Colt 45, Lone Star, and a handful of other beer and malt beverages. Beverages that seem to be inherently American in their branding and fan base.

Now, according to TIME, the location of the breweries is not going to change. These brews are still being cooked up in America, it’s just that the controlling stake is based in Russia. Still, do you think this will change some drinker’s opinions? It’s certainly possible.

What say you? Is this a bad move for Pabst or should they go with the money?

We’re on the fence… after all, we typically don’t drink that crap anway (unless there’s no better option). This is Beer Snob, after all.
