Ballast Point Piper Down

Anything Beer, Beer Reviews
From the self proclaimed Mecca of craft beer, San Diego brewers Ballast Point give us Piper Down. It’s a scotch ale that follows the apparent tradition of giving these beers hilarious names like Sheep Shagger and Kilt Lifter. And what is a Scotch Ale exactly? A less-hopped beer that boils longer to achieve a sweeter, maltier taste.
Piper Down meets these straight forward characteristics quite adequately; and I wouldn’t expect anything less from this brewery. A fairly smooth and drinkable beer that occupies a beautiful spot between heavy, complex beers and lighter ales and lagers.
The very nature of this beer really prevents it from being a profoundly original or life-altering. But it’s a solid choice to bring to a party that might be attended by a few casual drinkers. Yes, a Corona fan could enjoy this as much as an imperial stout devotee. 3.5/5 definitely give it a try.
