Iron Springs Brewery – The Crippla

Published On August 18, 2015 | By Stephen Rubke | Anything Beer, Beer Reviews
Iron Springs Brewery out of Fairfax, California brings us this Oatmeal Stout out of relative obscurity. I have had their DIPA “The Crippla” before and found it to be respectable, if not exactly ground breaking. It’s good to see them continuing to distribute outside of their local area continue to offer craft beer devotees a huge selection to choose from. Bonus points for making local charity a part of their mission. I will definitely add drinking this beer to the charitable work section of my resume.

Now then, Oatmeal Stouts often occupy that safe area of craft beer where we can expect stable flavors without much drama or daring. Such is the case with Sless which seems to tick all of the Oatmeal Stout boxes while neither offending or impressing. As I often do, I would recommend this as a diplomat beer to any of your friends that might legitimately believe a certain lager is actually the Champagne of beers.

I score it 3.5/5. A respectable effort not to be scoffed at, but nothing too memorable.

i, I'm Stephen. I'm an airline pilot and reformed beer drinker. Born and raised in southern California and lived the last half of my life in the SF Bay Area. I like sports cars with clutch pedals, airplanes, and both college and pro football. I spent most of my 20's drinking High Life and Rolling Rock, but was shamed into beer snobbery by the woman who would become my wife. Currently I enjoy travelling around the country and searching out the local beers. Cheers!
